The Five Reasons Why:
You are Stuck in a Spirit Draining Rut
by Kendall F. Person

When Monica Seles was stabbed in the back, while playing a championship match on a sold out center court – and not by her own – but her opponent’s stalker, it is plain to see why it took her two years to recover. But more importantly, she played absolutely no role in what would become her swan song as the world’s greatest. And while there exist times in our lives, where we have no control, we cannot sum up those times into the whole of our lives.
When disappointments arrive, and they always will, the first person we should look at, is the man in the mirror. Blame emits from angry emotion, while self-inventory comes from the cleansing of the mind, allowing us to move forward, while blame just leaves us mad. So the next time we fall down, let us first check to assure our shoes are tied, before attaching blame to whomever tripped us, even though we know, there was no one around.
2I knew the answer, but I asked more for confirmation, when I queried my 16-year-old Nephew, if he knew of a world without smartphones or the internet. The “No.” was expected, but the strange look on his face was not. He belongs to Generation Y also known as the Millennial. He was born into a techno-savvy world, all his friends have phones and all his schools have wifi, so to him, I must have sounded like a caveman. a world without smartphones, come on Uncle, he must have thought.
The world evolves. We can either take charge of the evolution or be a part in accepting change or we can stand our ground and remain defiant, about doing things the way we always have (even though the result has been the same) but it makes no difference, because the world evolves either way.
My 12th grade physics teacher, Ms. Chilcott, also taught geometry, chemistry, Algebra II and Calculus all in the same day. One morning, she passed back our test papers, and we noticed the red ink, that she had corrected the English errors made. She was a pilot and a scholar and knew each and everyone one of her students, and not just by name. So amazed where we, we asked her a serious question: Is there anything you don’t know? Her response, “Even I, am still learning.”

Each action has a reaction, sometimes good sometimes not, and it is those ‘nots’ that feed into our narcissistic thinking. We may sneak out, an hour early from work, 100 straights days and never get caught. But think about the chain reaction, when we roll the dice and on that 101st try, it finally lands on craps. We lose our job, our marriages or relationships become strained, are bills are overdue and our kids feel it too, and all because we thought of no one but ourselves.
If the real life story exists, I have not heard it, where one man or one woman has lived and prospered and traveled and raised a family and made their contribution, all by themselves. To believe, our wants and desires are more important than everyone and everything, is a destructive trait that benefits no one, not even the person at the center of self, because sooner or later, we find ourselves living in a lonely world.
5The sounds of the city echo through our ears. The constant barking of the dog keeps us up all night. We hear a few words, whispered in the cubicle next to ours, and since we missed a play or two, we watch the Golden State Warriors defeat the Cavaliers, even though the outcome has been determined. But when the phone rings, we are so preoccupied listening to the noises around us, we failed to listen when opportunity knocked. And the caller we rushed off the line, was the person your cousin told you about, the one that could help you in locating an option, to finally buy your family a house.
Opportunity – sometimes – is delivered on a silver spoon, but even then, we find ways to sabotage our own success and free ourselves of guilt, by blaming it on someone else (back to start). But most people who get ahead or achieve their goals or live their dreams outloud, have their eyes locked in on the prize and they will run, then dive to catch it, before the window of opportunity shuts down.
this is… The Neighborhood
To me, ‘Scream’ is a masterpiece on every level –
the performances, the humor, the tone –
it’s just flawless.
– Marley Shelton
Updated to include Official Video on 7/3/2015,
However, the visual concept, nearly renders the ‘song’ review pointless.
There is good. There is great. And then there is Rihanna.
Underground visual, recording & written-word artists, that venture into The Neighborhood often hear me say, that not only as artists are we controlled by the vast endlessness of our imagination, but we must learn to think big and not just perfect, but master our crafts. To deliver the type of performance that stretch the limits of current definitions of greatness; it is our responsibility to provoke thought and harness change, but as artists…. we are here to entertain.
Rihanna delivers a clinic in the performance genre of the recording arts; with her latest single Bitch Better Have My Money. At her level of superstardom, finding original, hard-hitting beats is not at all difficult of a feat. The type of money that changes hands, allows stars like Taylor Swift, Beyonce and the like to maintain a stranglehold on the pick of the litter. But a masterpiece beat could swallow even the most profound entertainer whole, if they cannot raise their game and remain the focus of their creation.
Rihanna delivers on every conceivable level. She breaks new ground in the powerful feminist movement, by conquering of the expression bitch better have my money which has always been spoken of a man to a woman in the most condescending of ways. The inflection in her tones, the strength of her voice, the beauty of her delivery and the danger found behind nearly every single line, create a visual so real, that the first time I heard this song, i thought she was talking to me.
In a relatively short career, Rihanna has put together a dazzling collection of songs, producing one smash hit after another and it appears, she has yet to peak.
Bitch Better Have My Money by Rihanna gets our vote for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Have you ever wondered…..
while inside your chosen House of Worship, and while listening to the word of God or Allah or Jehovah or Nature or whomever you bare witness from, and while the sermon is engulfing the atmosphere, and while you are becoming absorbed in the word of your Higher Power via the voices of your favorite choir, and while your heart fills with joy and the burdens that have weighed you down, seem to release from your soul, and you have never felt better then you do at the moment, when you close your eyes and feel His warmth, instilling you with strength and pride
Have you ever wondered why the struggle in finding our way to such a place, that will never let us down?
from Chicago Illinois, Never Let Me Down by Anew(Duo)
Never Let Me Down by underground gospel recording artists Anew(Duo) reminds us of how it feels in knowing, there is always someone or something on our side, that is grounded in the foundation, that holds us up when all we want, is to fall down. Their beautiful voices laid over an enchanting hip hop track is soothing and rhythmic, yet maintains its gospel definition through the poetry of its lyrics even when I could not see my way, he will never let me down And while the song is contagious, and you may find yourself listening over and over again, do not be concerned as gospel music is meant to uplift and never to tear down.
Anew(duo) has several songs in their catalog, including Celebrate Christ – uptempo, feel good music, billed as a holiday song, but Celebrate Christ feels so good, you will find no challenges in listening, even during the month of June. But Never Let Me Down is the star of their parade. It balances a precarious line, however: hip hop music in the gospel genre. There are times when the music over powers the lyrics, which may alienate traditional gospel critics. But the conviction in their voices from a Higher Power, that has called upon them, and through the synchronization of hip hop & gospel, Anew(Duo) like others in the genre before them, spread the Word to millions of music lovers, that are of the hip-hop generation… but want to hear gospel.

JOHN LEHR’S ‘QUICK DRAW’
AN IMPROVISATIONAL WONDER, EVEN IN RERUNS
a series review by Kendall F. Person
To attempt the near-impossible – shoot the moon, Urban Dictionary
I was a fan of Quick Draw even before I knew it shot the moon every time it filmed. I thought the delayed and sometimes quirky dialogue was different, but I could not put my finger on what that difference was. I am fan of the old west, but you do not have to be. to be entertained, although the costume and set design certainly fit the stage. I am a fan of Hulu, living almost exclusively by my computer, and although they are most famed for allowing us to stream prime time shows at anytime of the day, Hulu also boasts original series, and I must say – they did themselves proud in premiering, but a disservice with the promotions of Quick Draw.

Quick Draw is a marvel of television viewing or more appropriately, computer streaming. While improvisation, made popular for my generation by the late great Robin Williams in Mork and Mindy, is nothing new to the sitcom or stand up comedians, but I cannot think of a show where the entire dialogue – every word – is improvised by the show’s host of talented performers. John Lehr and Nancy Hower, series creators, write extensive scripts but the cast sees none of it, only receiving direction about the scene and where it needs to go. It is up to the actors to imagine the verbal interaction, to feed off cues or timing of one another and to transform those thoughts – in an instant – in order to deliver a show that does not simply entertain, but flows from beginning to end.
Watch this.
One of the most common fears amongst the general population is public speaking, and when we have to, many of us rehearse our few lines over and over. In some cases, outright panic overtakes us if our name is called before a block of people or a microphone is shoved in our faces and we have nothing prepared, but must instead, improvise off the top of our heads. It is a credit to the cast and to those that did the casting, to be comfortable within oneself and a master of one’s craft, to create your own script, based upon a scene, that you are not the only one in – and that is the marvel that Hulu failed to see.
If you are looking for humor, for something light to add to your streaming experience; with its multitude of zany characters, throwback storylines and improvisation at its finest, Quick Draw may hit the bullseye. Start from Season One, Episode One. But if westerns and comedy are not necessarily your thing or you simply have no time for more tv, do yourself a favor and watch Temperance – Season One, Episode Five – (for artists of all genres, it should be required viewing). It delivers it all: conflict, prohibition, prostitution, suicide, shootouts and laughs, and it places the spotlight on the character of Livinia Webb (Tasha Ames) the hidden jewel in a talented cast.
I know very little about the television and motion picture industry, but series creator John Lehr holds my admiration, not just for creating an artistic endeavor under the guise of a sitcom, but for believing in his creation and the value of improvisation, as he is on a one man crusade to bring Quick Draw back for another season, but enjoy the two that are now streaming.
Quick Draw. It’s not perfect. Its improv…. and it shoots the moon nearly every episode. But if you only have time for a single episode, Temperance is the one.
