I love to motivate people in the morning
because its the most important part of the day!
It’s therapeutic to me. – Tad Battle

TAD BATTLE
THE MORNING MOTIVATIONAL MAN

by Kendall F. Person

If you are Facebook Friends with Tad Battle, then you know very well who he is. If you are not, allow me to introduce and explain why he is a leader and has been selected to open such a high-profile show. I have never met him in person, nor have I ever heard his voice. We are connected through social media, although I imagine there must be other common ground, since we share 163 of the same Friends. Tad Battle is not the Mayor of a city nor Chief of a nation. He does not command a worldwide audience on television, and nor do the words he shares even belong to him, but Tad Battle sinks inside the consciousness of the thousands that see his daily posts of inspiration.

Either purposeful or by happenstance, on more then a few occasions, the quotes he shares feels like he is speaking to us directly. As if by divine intervention, he understands our struggles and what is challenging us at the moment, and takes the time to find the right words, that allow us to continue to march on.

Leadership is unlocking people’s potential
to become better. – Bill Bradley

And that exactly is what Tad Battle does best. He places each of us on the same page even though we are reading different books. Being a leader has many definitions and even more conquest. We can be led into salvation or we can be guided straight to damnation. We can be molded into leaders or we can follow in the footsteps of another, who quite frankly, does not give a dam. So it is not the definition of a leader we should seek, as there are no dictionaries that would define Tad Battle as a leader in the traditional sense.

But if we understand, that we are led by the forces that come at us each and every day; be it violence in our cities, that lead us to mistrust our fellow citizens or political rhetoric on the campaign trails, that lead us to believe, it is us against them, Tad Battle unwittingly combats those forces, with motivational words of support. And he does so in the mornings, to assure we are in control of our minds and our day; he affords us the tools we need, which subconsciously, reinforces that we should strive to be good members of our communities. A constant feed into our minds of uplifting words and we-can-do-anything vibes, fills us with the emotional and spiritual ammunition we need, to make positive contributions, that may one day gift humanity.

Everyone has a contribution to make.

Leadership & Authority – two vital words in maintaining a civil society and building a constructive and imaginative community. But they also hold the keys to division and destruction. However, it is the individual us as a collective community, that anoints the power of authority, based on the qualities we seek in our leaders. But first, we must learn to become leaders of ourselves. Then we must find a way to become positive contributors – on any level – within our homes and our neighborhoods, and even within our social media circles…. like Tad Battle.

ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE

FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP
by Da-shawn H-Y Loco Miles

It has been said, that money is the root of all evil. I say it’s the unconscious mind and the routine of which it feels forced to comply. A routine that obligates it to make that green paper a priority, and hold it on a higher pedestal; one even higher than family and friends, as opposed to earning money in support of them. And sometimes, the unconscious mind, holds it higher, then even human life itself.

Consciousness starts at home. I am a Young Black Man, a father, as well as a husband. I work hard to support my family, and my dreams of a large music career are in support of them, yet I am still a product of my environment. But I am no statistic. As a society, we are on edge with one another; either for very real reasons or those we are led to believe are real. For me, when cops kill unarmed civilians in America right now, and when there appears to be no cause, it affects me, the product I feel, a very real reason. And it affects us – the people – rather we believe it does or not. It affects the way we think. It divides us into camps; and We the people – both sides – get FED UP. We are not afraid, we are more like wounded lions with our backs to the wall, who choose to lash out and fight, even though it gets us no where at all.

But we must learn to fight by speaking up and by taking action, like better educating our youth about their rights, about the do’s-and-don’ts, and about the contribution they will someday be expected to make; so rather then become victims of an unconscious era, we teach them to become leaders with authority and a conscious, who strive to make society better.

Leadership at home is vital. Our children deserve a two parent household, a happy childhood and a carefree, but structured life, who are taught to respect authority and who understand, they are worth respect in return. Our children’s future should be the top priority, and the green paper we earn should be in support of making them better people, and not the root of all evil.

Will we choose to stand up and fight with knowledge and care? or will we lie our family’s heads on a plank, delivering them on that pedestal, to be devoured by unconscious minds bent on destruction.

Time is of the essence, as it awaits no-one. We all have a contribution to make for the sake of a better future in this world. Will we choose to fight among ourselves and continue to poison the minds of the young, extending the same unfortunate circumstances into the next generation? or will we fight for change? What contribution will you make? Mine will be to my kids.

Authority to Lead

AUTHORITY TO LEAD
by Kelly Lewis

Succumbing to fear we constantly hold ourselves back
Unsure and unwilling to bear the potential attacks
Of Authority on self-confidence that seems to lack
Understanding that everyone has something to add

Might we begin to curtail these damaging reflexes
To make conscious decisions in our best interests
Show some common courtesy, decency and respect
Supporting our communities without weighing regrets

Precious is the open mind that is capable to conceive
There’s beauty concealed in all unique, innate abilities
For truly, each of us has unlimited potential to lead
Democracy of chances to achieve collective dreams

Envision a supportive environment that feels safe
Celebrating our differences to exchange our fate

NO LIMITS
by Yelle Hughes

I’m a late bloomer in pursuing my desire to express my artistic side. I’ve been a dreamer all my life but  all I knew at that time, was that my lot in life was to be a wife, a mother and that’s it. It was not until after my divorce that I decided to take control of the reins and do what makes me happy.

Social Media brought the world to me and has opened my eyes from the tiny bubble I had encased myself in. I discovered music, imagery…people.Life is not one-dimensional, it is complex…vast. It takes guts to get out there and study it, learn it, be in it. I stepped out my box when I became an author, to share with the world, my version of Greek mythology and why it continues to permeate every aspect of our modern lives. I want people to feel the joy and laughter it has

brought to me. I never would have gone after my dream if I hadn’t been brave enough to step out of that label I was branded with…from the day I was born.

I want to encourage everyone, I mean everyone…that, even though you may have grown up in one type of environment, you don’t have to stay there. If your dream may bring you fulfillment, go after them, don’t let stereotypes, gossip and statistics stand in your way.

I still have a long way to go in the writing department and my digital art…I still have my doubts along the way, but I know this is what I want to do and damnit…I’m gonna do it.

The one thing I made sure to do, was to teach my kids to never turn their back on something because it’s different. Fortunately, they are way more talented than their mom.

It takes Leadership to step out of your comfort zone and explore different worlds and points of view. It takes Authority to be brave enough to make the decision to step up and speak out to show, tell and teach the next generation that life is beautiful and can be what you make of it.

My motto: To Limit Yourself is To Limit the Possibilities…keeps me going. To open myself to things that are different from me, to learn everyone doesn’t think like me and that’s okay. We are one being, one voice, we are…The Neighborhood.

‘StarBlazer’ New Music by Jazz Artist, 7th Born Productions, Delivers A Calm During The Storms

Star Blazer Jazz Music Review

Some people try to get very philosophical and cerebral about what they’re trying to say with jazz. You don’t need any prologues, you just play. If you have something to say of any worth then people will listen to you. – Oscar Peterson*

IS LIFE FAIR?

By and large, in a philosophical question, there is no right or wrong, ultimately it is what we believe or follow or subscribe to or settle for or are reduced to. With very few examples to the contrary, life is fair and tends to give us—on the average—exactly what we put into it. And even if the story is written, where our successes compared to the big stage are viewed as failures, or even if we master the victimization role and no one ever notices how many times we cried wolf, we know. And as individuals of the same species, I do believe within our contributions, there is an inner greatness, that is more defined in some than in others, but fair is pretending the template was cut that way or that all use greatness for greater good.**

If life is unfair, ask again  after reading about the plight of so many in the world around us and while listening to StarBlazer

Delivers A Calm During The Storms
——-
by Kendall F. Person
After an emotionally draining weekend, between the all-encompassing how-low-will-we-go 2016 US Elections, and watching for mark safe Facebook notifications, from friends and family, that were in the path of a Hurricane named Matthew; and bowing our heads in prayer, once again, for the historic nation of Haiti, for at last count, 1000 dead: the release of StarBlazer by Kenderick Merk Nichelson under the moniker 7th Born Productions, is no coincidence, I am sure. StarBlazer is a  light and catchy jazz tune, that speaks to only one emotion: Calm

⊕⊕⊕

Released: OCT 10, 2016
Titled: StarBlazer
Jazz Artists: 7th Born Productions

Over the past 4 years, Nichelson’s  production style and musical choices have – at times -given the appearance of a hobbyist as opposed to an artist; most notably during a brief stint as a rapper, which took him way out of his element. But even the sidestep was not for naught, as the methodical thinking Nichelson, demonstrated the evolution of an artist, and experienced the liberating freedom of self-expression, which is admirable, to say the least.

A casual jazz enthusiast or a new ‘Born’ listener, may interpret Nichelson’s vast catalog of music as unconnected individual pieces, but in actuality, he has quietly created and produced  A Soundtrack of Life — in real time.

From the angelic Right to Life, to the rebel yell of activism in Soul Cry of a Leader. From the intellectual engagement of Cookies-N-StarBucks (top of post) to the reflective brilliance of WORLD. listen

And now StarBlazer. A voice of calm, a chance for a timeout, a brief getaway from the nonstop. The timing is akin to the cooling Sacramento Delta Breeze, which seems to snap strings of hot summer days, before our breaking point is breached. The opening sequence, magically pulls us in, one… note…  at…  a… time. No instruments debating or infighting of words, just a melody of calm, with enough bounce to sway along.
StarBlazer confirms that Kenderick Merk Nichelson  comprehends his craft and the power of effectively communicating through jazz. And for those who have followed his work, it demonstrates he is at his best, when his music as his voice, keeps in time with current issues and state of mind.
